NCDOT Conducts Annual Winter Dry-Runs in Iredell County

STATESVILLE – The days are getting shorter, temperatures are colder and N.C. Department of Transportation crews in Iredell County are ready for winter's arrival after completing their annual winter dry-run.

Employees spent Monday reviewing snow removal routes, calibrating equipment and testing snowplows in preparation for the winter season.

“Monday was a dress rehearsal for what Iredell County crews will do when winter weather arrives,” said Iredell County Maintenance Engineer Billy Carpenter. “We checked all of our equipment, reviewed snow removal routes and made sure each employee knows what they’ll be doing during winter storms.”

When winter weather hits, NCDOT crews work around the clock until the weather event ends to clear roads, first prioritizing primary routes like interstates and other four-lane divided roads before moving onto other primary and secondary routes.

In Iredell County, more than two dozen NCDOT employees will use 25 trucks, four motor graders and other equipment to clear roads of snow, ice and fallen trees. NCDOT contractors aid in snow removal when their services are necessary.
