Contract Awarded to Replace Rockingham County Bridge

RUFFIN – A 55-year-old bridge in Rockingham County will soon be replaced thanks to a $4.6 million contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation this month.

The bridge on Mayfield Road that crosses over U.S. 29 Bypass in Ruffin was built in 1970 and will be replaced with a more modern bridge that meets current design standards.

NCDOT awarded the contract to Smith-Rowe, LLC of Mount Airy.

Crews can begin construction in December, and the project is expected to be substantially complete and open to traffic by the summer of 2027.
