Upcoming Closures Scheduled for U.S. 29 in Davidson County

THOMASVILLE - Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of U.S. 29 as part of an ongoing bridge replacement project.

On Nov. 20, between 8 p.m. – 6 a.m., crews will shift northbound traffic onto the new bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks. The work will begin slow-rolling operations to pace northbound traffic through the project and allow for the realignment of the current pavement markings. These operations will proceed slowly through the work zone and then allow for any traffic congestion to decrease, before making another slow-rolling pass.

Then, beginning Nov. 21 at 8 p.m., U.S. 29 will close between National Highway (N.C. 68) and West Green Drive, as crews work to relocate the concrete barrier wall and shift southbound traffic onto the new bridge. The road will reopen at 8 a.m. the following day. The work will continue Nov. 23 – 25 from 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Drivers will be detoured along National Highway, West English Road, West Market Center Drive, and West Green Drive to bypass the work zone.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, remain cautious, and expect potential delays due to detour routes.
