CANDOR – Drivers who use N.C. 211 east of Candor will need to follow a signed detour next week for railroad crossing work.
The Carolina Aberdeen & Western Railway Co. has informed state highway officials it plans to replace its rail crossing on N.C. 211 about a mile east of the Interstate 73/74 junction.
The work will require the roadway at the track to close in both directions starting the morning of Dec. 1. The railroad hopes to finish and reopen the road by Dec. 4, weather permitting.
There will be two signed detours. Commercial truckers should take I-73/74, N.C. 24/27 and N.C. 705. Other drivers may use Old Barn Road, Cole Road/Tarry Church Road, N.C. 24/27 and Big Oak Church Road.
People should plan on a longer commute using the detour and be alert near the work site.
