Dual Roundabouts Are Coming to Northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $6.8 million contract for construction of two single-lane roundabouts at Oakdale/Miranda/Simpson roads and Oakdale/Sunset/Miranda roads in northwest Charlotte.

Roundabouts provide more efficient travel conditions for drivers at slower speeds while reducing the frequency and severity of crashes.

Monroe contractor TrueRock Construction, LLC earned the contract and can start work in early January 2026. Per the contract, any closures on Oakdale Road will be limited between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Closures on other roads will be allowed in the daytime during non-peak travel times. Restrictions are also in place for holidays and other special events that may generate traffic in the area.

The roadway portion of the project is anticipated to be complete by summer 2027. Other items like landscaping and vegetation establishment can continue into 2028.
