RALEIGH – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan
to close a section of westbound Western Boulevard and conduct intermittent slow-roll traffic stops on the eastbound side as crews install new overhead signs for the
Interstate 440 improvements project. From Dec. 15-18, between midnight and 5 a.m., westbound Western Boulevard will be closed between Chaney Road and I-440, weather permitting. Traffic will detour to Gorman Street and Hillsborough Street.
During these same overnight hours, drivers on eastbound Western Boulevard should expect multiple 20-minute slow rolls in the work zone.
Drivers should factor the detour and slow-rolling operations into their trips, and be mindful of crews in and near the work zone.
