Repairs Begin Wednesday for Helene-Damaged Pipe in Boone

BOONE –  An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor is set to begin repairing a Hurricane Helene-damaged pipe in Watauga County on Wednesday.

Crews from contractor Nu-Pipe, LLC, will install a pipeliner in the pipe that runs under the N.C. 105 Bypass near Greer Lane in Boone.

A pipeliner is a material that’s pulled through an existing pipe and cured in place. Once cured, it makes a smooth, sturdy cast around the existing pipe to add structural support.

Most of this pipe repair can be completed on the shoulder of the road, but some parts of the operation may require brief lane or road closures throughout the day. Transportation officials urge drivers to pay attention in the work zone and follow directions from flaggers.
