RALEIGH – Traffic is now in its final pattern along the west side of Raleigh’s Beltline, marking a major milestone for the Interstate 440 Improvements project.
The Beltline now has three travel lanes open in each direction from Wade Avenue to Walnut Street, making this the final section of I-440 to be upgraded to more than two lanes each way. In addition, collector/distributer lanes have been added in both directions to improve access to Wade Avenue and Hillsborough Street.
The improvements are expected to improve traffic flow and enhance safety along one of the region’s busiest corridors.
While open at full capacity, there is still work being conducted along the Beltline and several of the roads it crosses. Drivers should continue to be cautious and mindful of the crews working in this area.
