NCDOT to Resurface Part of U.S. 421 in Yadkin County

YADKINVILLE – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will resurface sections of U.S. 421 and a secondary road in Yadkin County over the next year.

Maymead Inc., of Mountain City, Tennessee, earned the $2.9 million contract to resurface two sections of U.S. 421, four U.S. 421 ramps and two sections of secondary roads in Yadkin County. 

Crews can begin resurfacing the following sections in early 2026:

  • U.S. 421 between Exit 259 (Reavis Road) and Exit 263 (U.S. 21)
  • The U.S. 421 North on-ramp from Reavis Road
  • The U.S. 421 South off-ramp for Reavis Road
  • The U.S. 421 North off-ramp for U.S. 21
  • The U.S. 421 South on-ramp from U.S. 21
  • Shady Grove Church Road between Smithtown Road and Martins Mill Road

The contract restricts lane closures during rush hour or holidays. It calls for resurfacing to finish by late spring 2027.
