RALEIGH — Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to close one ramp each night next week at the Interstate 40/I-440/U.S. 1 interchange for soil testing operations, weather permitting.
The following detours will be in place from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.:
On Sunday night, drivers on U.S. 1 North and I-440 West who want to access I-40 East will be detoured to take I-40 West to Exit 291 (Cary Town Boulevard) to return to I-40 East.
On Monday night, drivers on I-40 East wanting to access U.S. 1 South will be directed to take a series of ramps at the interchange (293B toward I-440 East, 1B toward I-40 West, then 293A) to access U.S. 1 South.
On Tuesday night, crews will close the ramp from I-440 West to I-40 West. The detour will have drivers on I-440 West take a series of ramps at the interchange (1A toward I-40 East, 293B toward I-440 East, then 1B) to access I-40 West.
On Wednesday night, crews will close the ramp from I-40 West to I-440 East. The detour will have drivers on I-40 West take a series of ramps at the interchange (293A toward U.S. 1 South, 1A toward I-40 East, then 293B) to access I-440 East.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and be cautious when traveling near the work zone.
