State Ferry Division to Host Morehead City Career Fair Wednesday

MOREHEAD CITY –  Job seekers are encouraged to attend a career fair Jan. 14 in Morehead City to learn about embarking on a rewarding new career with the North Carolina Ferry Division.

The career fair, hosted by the Ferry Division and NC Works, will be from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the NC Works Big Rock Career Center, 3813 Arendell St. in Morehead City.

The career event will be focused on finding temporary and seasonal employees for the upcoming summer season. Seasonal employees are a key part of the N.C. Ferry System’s service, and they are often given first consideration for permanent roles.

The N.C. Ferry System, which operates eight coastal ferry routes, offers positions working on the vessels, 13 terminals and at a shipyard in Manns Harbor.

At the events, applications will be accepted for temporary/seasonal employment at all experience levels, from general utility worker to experienced boat captains. Those seeking permanent employment are welcome to attend the event to learn more about open positions and how to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) for the application process.

Among the benefits of Ferry Division permanent employment are;

  • Competitive salaries
  • Year-round, full-time permanent employment
  • Health insurance
  • Retirement benefits
  • Paid vacation, holiday and sick leave

The event is the first of four job fairs planned across eastern North Carolina. Other events will be held Jan. 21 at the Hatteras Ferry Terminal, Jan. 28 at the Southport Ferry Terminal, and Feb. 4 at the Pamlico River Ferry Terminal in Bath.
