NCDOT Awards Contract to Replace Rockingham County Bridge

REIDSVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation is scheduled to replace a 58-year-old Rockingham County bridge thanks to a recently awarded contract.

Built in 1967, the bridge over Hogan’s Creek on U.S. 158 near Reidsville is reaching the end of its service-life. The replacement bridge will be built to modern standards, with wider travel lanes and shoulders.

NCDOT awarded the $4.5 million contract to Smith-Rowe, LLC. of Mount Airy, which can begin construction as early as Jan. 26. The project is scheduled to be completed by the spring of 2028.

During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge, and temporary signals will be used to permit two-way vehicle movements.
