Soil Testing Scheduled for New Hanover County Road

WILMINGTON – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close lanes and shoulders of a New Hanover County road so crews can safely test soil for a future project.

Contractors will perform drilling operations on the shoulder of North College Road (U.S. 117/ N.C. 132) between Market Street and Gordon Road to test the soil. This work may require temporary overnight shoulder or lane closures.

Work will take place Monday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., between Jan. 18 and March 26.

Drivers are encouraged to be alert to crews working, slow down, and seek alternate routes when available.

The soil testing is part of the North College Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway (U.S. 74) interchange project (U-5792). A public meeting on the project is scheduled for Jan. 29 in Wilmington.
