UPDATE: Contract crews have extended their work schedule for bridge repairs. The road will now reopen on Jan. 31 by 6 a.m., weather permitting.
LEWISVILLE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close U.S. 421 Southbound tonight for bridge repairs.
U.S. 421 southbound at Exit 246 to Shallowford Road will close at 8 p.m. Jan. 28 and reopen Jan. 29 by 6 a.m., weather permitting.
Crews need to make repairs to the bridge after a truck transporting a piece of logging equipment struck the bridge over U.S. 421 back in December, damaging the steel girders.
A signed detour will direct traffic around the bridge closure.
Motorists should allow extra time, use caution near the work zone, and follow all posted detours.
