Dickinson Avenue Opens to Traffic in Pitt County

GREENVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation opened the remaining portion of Dickinson Avenue to vehicle traffic today in Pitt County.

The 1.3-mile project from N.C. 11 to Reade Circle improves the storm drainage system and roadway to reduce flooding in the area.

Work still needs to be complete on the project, including the sidewalks, landscaping, parklets at Clarke Street and Pitt Street, and the final surface and striping.

These tasks will require daily lane closures over the next couple of months. Items such as asphalt and striping are temperature-dependent and cannot be completed unless weather conditions allow.

While some sections of the project remained closed longer than originally anticipated, the project is on track to be completed this summer, as presented at the NCDOT public meeting in early 2024.

Drivers should continue to use caution and watch for crews in the area.
