NCDOT Making Repairs to Whalebone Junction Signal After Storm Damage

NAGS HEAD – The N.C. Department of Transportation is making emergency repairs to a traffic signal at the Whalebone Junction intersection of U.S. 64 and U.S. 158 in Nags Head after receiving damage during the recent winter storm. The signal was seen vibrating erratically during the peak of the storm on Saturday night.

The roadway under the signal will be closed in both directions during the repair process.

During the road closure, the following detours will be used:

  • Motorists heading northbound from U.S. 64 will detour by taking the right ramp toward N.C. 12 and then turning left through the first signal to U.S. 158.
  • Motorists heading southbound from U.S. 158 onto N.C. 12 or U.S. 64 will detour by turning left onto East Gull Street, right onto N.C. 12, then continuing onto U.S. 64.
Drivers should use caution in the area, follow posted detour signs and allow extra travel time.
