HIGH POINT – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close a section of South Main Street near U.S. 29 next week to allow for bridge construction, weather permitting.
Beginning Feb. 9 at 8 p.m., crews will close South Main Street in both directions under the U.S. 29 bridge to set new bridge girders. The road is scheduled to reopen by Feb. 10 at 6 a.m.
During the closure, motorists should use the following detours:
Northbound traffic:
- South Main Street Through-Traffic: View Map

Southbound traffic:
- U.S. 29 Exit to South Main Street (South): View Map
- South Main Street Through-Traffic: View Map
Transportation officials remind drivers to plan ahead, remain alert to construction crews in the area and obey all posted traffic signs.
