LEXINGTON – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to demolish the northbound U.S. 29/70 bridge this weekend.
To do so safely, crews will close the section of West Fifth Avenue / Old U.S. 64 at 10 p.m. on Feb. 6, and they plan to reopen the road by 6 a.m. Feb. 9, weather permitting.
On the west side of the closure, the entrance and exit ramps to southbound U.S. 29/70 and Murphy Drive will remain open.
On the east side, National Boulevard and Central Avenue will remain open.
A signed detour will be in place.
Transportation officials remind drivers to plan for detours, remain alert, and obey all posted traffic signs.
