EDEN – A Rockingham County bridge will soon be replaced thanks to a nearly $3 million contract awarded to Smith-Rowe, LLC. of Mount Airy by the N.C. Department of Transportation this month.
The bridge, located on Fisher Hill Road over N.C. 14/N.C. 87, has reached the end of its service life and will be replaced with a new structure featuring increased vertical clearance and wider shoulders.
Construction can begin as early as March 2. During construction, crews will close the bridge and detour traffic to maintain a safe work zone.
The bridge is expected to open to traffic by late spring 2027, with landscaping and vegetation work continuing through fall 2027.
