RIEGELOOD – A portion of Neils Eddy Road in Columbus County will close Feb. 23 for the construction of a new bridge.
A state highway contractor is scheduled to close the road over Mill Creek east of Fertilizer Road on Feb. 23. (The original closure date of Feb. 16 was rescheduled by the contractor.) The bridge will replace three drainpipes and improve drainage and make the road more resilient against future flooding.
The signed detour will send drivers onto Fertilizer Road in Columbus County, which becomes Northwest Road NE in Brunswick County, and onto Blue Banks Loop Road NE and Goose Neck Road NE, which becomes Neils Eddy Road in Columbus County.
The road is scheduled to
reopen in May upon the completion of the bridge.
State transportation officials remind drivers to plan ahead and be cautious near the work site.
The Lumberton-based contractor, The Tara Group, won the $832,628 bid for the work in September.
