TROY – Sections of four highways in Montgomery County will be milled and resurfaced after the N.C. Department of Transportation recently awarded a $2.9 million contract.
Raleigh-based Fred Smith Co. will make the improvements to the following highways, as well as five secondary roads:
- U.S. 220 Alternate between Factory Street and Shady Oak Drive
- N.C. 134 between Atkins Dairy and Bandy roads
- N.C. 731 between Thickety Creek and Bowles roads
- N.C. 109 from Dark Springs Mountain Trail to the Randolph county line
- Homanit USA Road
- Ether Road
- Thickety Creek Road
- Research Farm Road
- Robedo Road
In all, 14.4 miles of roadway will be repaved. Fred Smith can begin this spring, and will have until the fall of 2027 to complete the work.
