NEW BERN – The N.C. Department of Transportation will conduct nightly lane closures on a section of U.S. 70 over the Trent River beginning Sunday.
The lane closures will be in effect Sunday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. over the next several weeks for bridge joint replacements.
Beginning March 8, crews will conduct lane closures of U.S. 70 East near mile marker 417. Following the completion of the eastbound lanes, crews will conduct lane closures of U.S. 70 West near mile marker 417, beginning March 29.
Work on each section of the bridge is expected to take about three weeks, with the road fully reopened by late April.
Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling near the work zone and consider alternate routes to avoid delays. This work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled.
