NCDOT Awards Mecklenburg Contract to Improve Safety, Mobility

CORNELIUS – The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $7.8 million contract last week to make improvements along Bailey Road in Cornelius, providing safety and ease of mobility. Charlotte contractor Blythe Development, Inc., earned the contract.

The project calls to extend Bailey Road approximately half a mile on new location between U.S. 21 (Statesville Road) and Poole Place Drive. A new roundabout will also be built at Bailey Road/Poole Place Drive/Bailey Road Extension.

The project will also feature a connection to Caldwell Station Creek Greenway from the future road extension with a new culvert. Installing the culvert will require temporarily closing the greenway at a later date.

Contract crews can begin working as early as the end of March and have the road portion of the project completed in the fall of 2027. Landscaping and vegetation establishment can continue into the spring of 2028.
