YADKINVILLE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will open a new roundabout and begin work on a second roundabout this week on Speer Bridge Road at U.S. 421.
Transportation officials plan to open the U.S. 421 South ramps and roundabout Wednesday. Crews also will close the U.S. 421 North ramps and Speer Bridge Road over U.S. 421 to build the second roundabout.
Crews from Triangle Grading & Paving began work in August on a roundabout for the U.S. 421 South ramps on Speer Bridge Road, with the ramps closed throughout construction.
The roundabouts designed for this $1.4 million project aim to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. Drivers should remember the following tips when navigating roundabouts:
- Slow down as you approach the roundabout
- Yield to any vehicles already in the roundabout
- Use turn signals when exiting
A signed detour will guide drivers around the closure using Dinkins Bottom Road, Old U.S. 421 and Courtney-Huntsville Road until the roundabout is finished later this year.
