WINSTON-SALEM – Beginning Wednesday, a contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close lanes and ramps on Interstate 40 Westbound for ongoing construction.

Crews will move concrete barriers, remove temporary asphalt, adjust traffic markings and shift I-40 west traffic from a temporary pattern onto two lanes in the project's final configuration.

The scheduled closures will occur as follows:

Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12:  The right lane of I-40 West will be closed from Union Cross Road (mile marker 201) to 199 nightly from 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Saturday, March 14: The ramp from Union Cross Road to I-40 West will close beginning at 7 p.m. and is expected to reopen by 1 a.m. Sunday, March 15. A signed detour will direct motorists to I-40 West.

Saturday March 14 from 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, March 16: The right lane initially, then later the left lane on I-40 West will close from Union Cross Road (mile marker 201) to Highpoint Road (mile marker 197).

This work is weather-permitting and could be postponed. Drivers should slow down, use caution and watch for crews in the work zone.
