ROCKINGHAM – One section of the U.S. 74 Bypass and six secondary roads in Richmond County will be milled and resurfaced under a contract awarded this week.
Barnhill Contracting Co. of Rocky Mount can begin the work in late April, after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded the $4.3 million bid. The work includes repaving and restriping both directions of the U.S. 74 Bypass between the Marks Creek Bridge and Mizpah Road.
The overall contract covers about 22 miles of roadway, including these secondary routes
- Boyd Lake Road
- McDonald Avenue
- Allred Road
- Alvin Harris Road
- Enterprise Drive
- Rockingham Road
Barnhill will have until the fall of 2027 to complete the project.
However, the contractor will be required to resurface McDonald Avenue this summer when school is out and complete that portion of the project by Aug. 15.
