MATTHEWS– The N.C. Department of Transportation has awarded a $4.2 million contract to build a new section of Greylock Ridge Road between E. John Steet and Tank Town Road in Matthews. Mountaineer Contractors Inc. and Subsidiaries of West Virginia earned the project.
The project includes extending Greylock Ridge Road about one-third of a mile and closing the existing railroad crossing at E. Charles Street and Tank Town Road. CSX will install a new crossing in coordination with this project.
The contract allows work to begin as early as April 27, with the roadway portion calling for completion by September 2027. Vegetation and landscaping work can continue in the spring of 2028.
Any necessary lane closures on E. John Street will be permitted only during non-peak travel times (7 p.m. – 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mondays – Fridays.) Other restrictions will be in place for holidays and holiday weekends.
