CHARLOTTE – Nine miles of roadways in Mecklenburg County are set to be resurfaced, thanks to a $3.7 million contract the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded last month to South Carolina contractor King Asphalt Inc.
One primary road included in this contract is a stretch of U.S. 521 from the South Carolina border to Brixham Hill Road. Both directions will be milled, patched and resurfaced with new pavement markings and pavement markers.
The remainder of the contract includes more than a dozen secondary roads in the south end of the county:
- Blue Granite Road
- Slate Court
- Woodside Falls Road
- Limestone Lane
- Sapphire Lane
- Emerald Court
- Diamond Drive
- Peridot Court
- Cotton Lane
- Sawtry Court
- Gatestone Lane
- Dansville Drive
- Wildiris Court
- Seastone Lane
- Baker Mills Road
Contract crews can begin the project as early as this month and will have until the fall of 2027 to complete the project.
Lane closures on U.S. 521 will be restricted to overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Mondays - Sundays, and special provisions will be in place for holidays and special events that generate significant traffic volumes.
