UPDATE: Nightly Closures Scheduled for I -40 in Forsyth County

UPDATE: Contract crews have canceled this weekend's lane ​closure due to equipment issues.

WINSTON SALEM – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close late tonight a section of Interstate 40 East, as part of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway project.

Starting around midnight, I-40 East will be closed between Exit 196 (I-74) and Exit 201 (Union Cross Road) and expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Friday, April 10.

A signed detour will be in place directing drivers to I-74, Union Cross Road back to I-40 East.

Then, at 9 p.m. on Friday, one lane of I-40 East will be closed between Exit 196 (I-74) and Exit 201 (Union Cross Road). The road is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

Drivers are encouraged to use U.S. 421 (Salem Parkway).

Motorists should remain cautious and be prepared for potential delays due to detour routes and changes in traffic patterns.
