WILSON – A portion of N.C. 58 in Wilson County near the Nash County border is scheduled to close for two weeks for drainage improvements.
Contract crews for the state Transportation Department will replace the aging metal culvert, which is beginning to rust, with a larger and more durable aluminum-based drainpipe.
The highway is scheduled close at 7 a.m. Monday, and reopen by May 8, weather permitting.
A signed detour will send drivers onto Cliftonville and N.C. 97. Drivers should be mindful of the longer commute using the detour and alert near the work site.
The department has been repairing or replacing other culverts along N.C. 58 before the highway is resurfaced later this year.
