Short Lane Closure Planned for Pirate's Cove Bridge Friday

MANTEO – A single lane closure is planned for the Washington Baum (Pirate’s Cove) Bridge Friday morning, as the area hosts the Dare County segment of the Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run.

Starting at 9 a.m. May 15, the right lane of the westbound side of the bridge will be closed to traffic, to accommodate runners from the N.C. State Highway Patrol and the Kitty Hawk Police Department.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol will be setting up barriers and monitoring the bridge during the closure.

The right lane is expected to reopen to traffic no later than 10 a.m.

The event is part of a 2,000-mile, two-month relay that will culminate May 29 with the lighting of the cauldron at the Special Olympics N.C. Summer Games opening ceremony in Raleigh.
