GASTONIA – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will inspect an Interstate 85 bridge in Gaston County this weekend.
TGS Engineers, of Shelby, will close the right lane of the I-85 North bridge over South Fork Catawba River just north of N.C. 7 (Exit 23) at 6 a.m. Saturday to begin the inspection. The lane will remain closed until noon to safely conduct the inspection.
The bridge inspection will continue Sunday, with crews closing the right lane of I-85 South from 6 a.m. to noon to finish inspection operations.
NCDOT inspects all bridges at least every two years in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Drivers should allow additional travel time, stay alert and avoid distracted driving in the area.
