NEW BERN – The N.C. Department of Transportation will improve the intersection of Dr. M L King Jr. Boulevard (U.S. 70 Business/U.S. 17) at Hotel Drive beginning next week.
Beginning May 18, the first phase of the project will be underway. Crews will close the left lanes of Dr. M L King Jr. Boulevard in both directions to widen the left turn lanes onto Hotel Drive.
This work is expected to take about two weeks, weather permitting. The left lanes will reopen once work is complete.
Other improvements include drainage, paving, signals and pedestrian accommodations, which will require closures throughout the summer. Additional communication will be provided.
Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the work zone and seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
