THOMASVILLE – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will alter traffic patterns on U.S. 29 between Old Thomasville Road and National Highway (N.C. 68) in Davidson County for one night as part of a bridge replacement project.
U.S. 29 South will close with a detour from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. on Wednesday. U.S. 29 North will have intermittent slow-roll operations during the same time frame.
The traffic adjustments are necessary for the contractor to safely deliver and unload new bridge girders.
U.S. 29 South drivers will detour to Old Thomasville Road, West Market Center Drive, and West English Road/National Highway to bypass the work zone.
During the operation, as girders are being lifted from the delivery trucks, crews will begin slow-rolling operations to pace northbound traffic through the work zone and allow for the girders to be safely relocated away from traffic. There will be up to three slow-rolling operations, lasting up to ten minutes each.
Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through work zones.
