RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.
Move Over or Get Pulled Over Campaign
This week, the statewide “Move Over or Get Pulled Over” campaign is underway, reminding drivers to move over or slow down for emergency and public service vehicles, like Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP), stopped with flashing lights.
“When you see us on the side of the road, emergency vehicles, slow down, move over, so we can go home to our families,” said IMAP responder, Nick Garner.
Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
In other safety news, May is National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
Proper training and safety precautions are the most effective ways to reduce the chances of being involved in a motorcycle crash.
For motorcyclists, safety starts with wearing an NCDOT compliant helmet, being properly licensed and obeying all traffic safety laws.
Drivers are reminded to stay alert, watch for motorcyclists and share the road.
Spring Litter Sweep
NCDOT recently wrapped up the Spring Litter Sweep collecting over 600,000 pounds of litter across the state during the two-week sweep.
While the campaign is over, the department encourages everyone to keep North Carolina beautiful by not littering.
