ROARING RIVER – The N.C. Department of Transportation is replacing a Wilkes County bridge.
Crews began replacing the bridge on Ruritan Road over Crab Orchard Creek with a concrete box culvert Monday.
The new structure’s bottomless design improves water flow and capacity for vehicles traveling over the creek.
Ruritan Road will remain closed near the bridge until crews finish the replacement this summer.
Drivers will follow a signed detour around the closure from Ruritan Road to White Plains Road then Arbor Grove Road then Railroad Ruritan Club Road before returning to Ruritan Road.
