RALEIGH–The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Drive NC Update
NCDOT is launching an updated DriveNC website and a new app for real-time road updates.

The updated site will feature a cleaner map and easier-to-use tools when checking for road closures and other traffic disruptions.

The public will be able to sign up for custom route alerts, view live traffic cameras and read digital sign messages.

The refreshed site and new DriveNC mobile app are expected to go live on May 27.

Memorial Day Travel
Law enforcement is stepping up seat belt enforcement through May 31.

The Governor's Highway Safety Program launched its Memorial Day "Click It or Ticket" campaign this week. Drivers can expect increased patrols as roads get busier for Memorial Day holiday travel.

I-40 Media Tour
Progress continues on the effort to reconstruct Interstate 40 in the Pigeon River Gorge, where it was damaged by Helene. NCDOT officials provided reporters with another tour of the recovery work taking place on I-40 near the Tennessee line.

Engineers showed the on-site process of crushing rock, making concrete and placing material that is being used to expedite reconstruction by removing heavy trucks from the interstate. NCDOT still estimates reopening all lanes in late 2028.
