I-77 Ramp Improvements Begin Friday in Iredell County

TROUTMAN – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will improve an Interstate 77 on-ramp in Iredell County this weekend.

Crews from Maymead Inc., of Mountain City, Tennessee, will close the on-ramp to I-77 South from South Main Street (U.S. 21) beginning at 10 p.m. Friday to reconstruct the surface layers of the on-ramp, weather permitting. The ramp will reopen by noon Sunday.

Crews will mill the existing road surface then install a pavement interlayer fabric and place new asphalt, giving drivers a smoother ride as they enter I-77.

Drivers will follow a signed detour from South Main Street to I-77 North, then take I-77 North to Exit 45 (Amity Hill Road) to access I-77 South.

Motorists should pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.

This is part of a $21.4 million contract to rehabilitate approximately 12 miles of I-77 in Iredell County from Exit 36 (N.C. 150) to Exit 49 (U.S. 70/Salisbury Road). The contract calls for completion this fall.
