Upcoming Improvements Planned for Glenwood Avenue

RALEIGH – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation plan to begin a resurfacing project on Glenwood Avenue between Wade Avenue and Woman's Club Drive Sunday night.

The project includes milling, paving and striping along the corridor, including the Five Points intersection. Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin Sunday night, June 28, at Woman's Club Drive and will be conducted during the overnight hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

To improve safety and expedite construction, the Five Points intersection will be closed nightly from July 12 through July 14, pending weather or schedule changes.

Drivers will be directed to a signed detour following Oberlin Road and Wade Avenue, adding about a mile for those traveling through this section. Motorists may also choose alternate routes based on their destination.

An off-site detour is necessary to allow crews to complete work efficiently and safely, particularly at the Five Points intersection, helping reduce the overall duration of the project.

Local traffic will be permitted through the detour area to access homes and businesses. Construction staff will be on-site to provide guidance as needed.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow posted signs and remain alert while traveling near the work zone.
