I-26 West Overnight Closures Coming This Week

ASHEVILLE – A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close short stretches of Interstate 26 West overnight three nights this week to safely smooth out the riding surface.

The interstate will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. tonight through Wednesday nights from Long Shoals Road (Exit 37) to Brevard Road (Exit 33). The marked detour will direct traffic west on Long Shoals Road (N.C. 147), then north on Brevard Road (N.C. 191) to I-26.

Crews will utilize the overnight closures — planned pending dry weather — to safely diamond-grind the riding surface and apply new pavement markings on this stretch which passes underneath the new Blue Ridge Parkway bridge. These operations are part of the I-26 Widening project.

Transportation officials remind drivers to remain alert, obey all posted signs traffic signs and follow marked detour routes for the safety of motorists and workers.
