PILOT MOUNTAIN — An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will close a section of U.S. 52 North in Surry County to finish a paving operation tonight.
Crews will close U.S. 52 North from N.C. 268 to Old U.S. 52 beginning at 8 p.m. to pave near the temporary bridge over Toms Creek in Pilot Mountain. The road will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Motorists will follow a signed detour from U.S. 52 to N.C. 268 then Old U.S. 52 before returning to U.S. 52 North.
This is part of the $13 million project replacing the bridges over Toms Creek. Crews finished the U.S. 52 South bridge in March and began construction of the U.S. 52 North bridge in April. Construction is anticipated to finish in summer 2027.
