ASHEBORO — Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will widen a section of N.C. 42 in Randolph County thanks to a recently awarded contract.
The project will widen N.C. 42 from East Salisbury Street to north of U.S. 64/N.C. 49 (Dixie Drive), expanding the roadway from two to three lanes to increase vehicle capacity and improve traffic flow. Planned construction includes grading, drainage, paving, signals and structure work.
NCDOT awarded the $12.4 million contract to Virginia-based contractor Branch Civil, Inc., which can start work as early as July 27.
Construction is expected to be completed by fall 2028, with vegetation work continuing into early 2029.
