RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction on the eastern portion of the Complete 540 project, Phase 2. This project will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from the I-40/I-42/Toll N.C. 540 interchange near Garner and Clayton to the existing I-540/I-87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264 interchange in Knightdale, providing the missing link to complete the outer 540 loop around the greater Raleigh area.
East Garner Road between Auburn Knightdale Road and Rock Quarry Road is scheduled to be temporarily closed to traffic beginning on or around July 13 for approximately 45 days. During this closure, crews will be completing roadway work to shift East Garner Road to its new, permanent alignment. Local access will be maintained throughout the duration of the road closure.
Detour route for the closure is outlined in the above map.
Drivers wishing to continue traveling East on East Garner Road will use the following signed detour route:
- Continue traveling East on East Garner Road
- Turn left onto Auburn Knightdale Road
- Turn right onto Rock Quarry Road
- Turn left onto East Garner Road
Drivers wishing to continue traveling West on East Garner Road will use the following signed detour route:
- Continue traveling West on East Garner Road
- Turn right onto Rock Quarry Road
- Turn left onto Auburn Knightdale Road
- Turn right onto East Garner Road
Drivers may experience delays and should pay close attention when driving along the detour routes. Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid the area, if possible. If drivers must be in the area, they are advised to take the detour route.
The temporary closure and associated detours are weather dependent.
