MORGANTON – More than 22 miles of secondary roads in Burke County are set to be resurfaced, thanks to a $4.7 million contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Maymead Inc., may begin milling, resurfacing, and shoulder reconstruction operations on 24 sections of secondary roads as early as June 29.
Secondary roads are chosen for resurfacing projects to improve maintenance efficiency based on pavement conditions, location and proximity to other routes under construction.
Drivers will notice benefits including improved driving surfaces and higher visibility road markings once construction is complete. New materials will allow for greater durability and longevity of roads.
The project is expected to be completed by Nov. 12, 2027.
