RUTHERFORD COUNTY — A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation is set to begin resurfacing secondary roads in Rutherford County, thanks to a recently awarded $5.9 million contract.
The project includes 31 miles of milling, resurfacing, and shoulder reconstruction. It covers 17 sections of secondary roads, three school bus drives, and one fire department.
Schools under contract include Rutherfordton Elementary, R-S Middle and R-S Central High School. Resurfacing in summer months allows the contractor to avoid impacting school traffic.
New materials will provide greater durability and longevity of roads. Benefits include improved driving surfaces and higher visibility road markings.
Tarheel Paving and Asphalt Co. can begin work on June 29.
