CHARLOTTE – This weekend, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close Oakdale Road at Sunset Road in conjunction with a $6.8 million project to build two single-lane roundabouts at Oakdale/Miranda/Simpson roads and Oakdale/Sunset/Miranda roads in northwest Charlotte.
The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, July 17, through 6 a.m. Monday, July 20, with the following detours posted for drivers:
Oakdale Road detour north of project: Oakdale Road to Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road to N.C. 16 back to Oakdale Road
Oakdale Road detour south of project: Oakdale Road to N.C. 16 to Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road back to Oakdale Road
Sunset Road detour south of project: Sunset Road to Peachtree Road back to Oakdale Road
Sunset Road detour north of project: Sunset Road to Peachtree Road to N.C. 16 to Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road back to Oakdale Road
Weather permitting, these closures will be implemented two additional consecutive weekends.
A separate closure took effect July 13 on Miranda Road between Oakdale Road and Beatties Ford Road to complete concrete and asphalt work, stormwater, and to install permanent pavement markings and markers.
The contract calls for the Miranda Road closure to be in place for up to 42 days, detouring traffic along Beatties Ford Road, Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road and Oakdale Road, returning to Miranda Road.
The roadway portion of the project is anticipated to be complete by summer 2027. Other items like landscaping and vegetation establishment can continue into 2028.
