ROCKY MOUNT – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ License Plate Agency (LPA) in Mount Airy is temporarily closed due to significant damage resulting from recent flooding in the area.
NCDMV is working with the contractor of the agency to determine the amount of damage to the office location. It is not yet known when the office will reopen.
During the closure in Mount Airy, customers can visit four nearby LPAs:
• Elkin, 220 W. Main St., 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Sparta, 348 S. Main St. (Alleghany Co. Administration Bldg.), 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Walnut Cove, 208 W. 3rd St. (Walnut Cove Town Hall), 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Rural Hall, 145 Bethania St., 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
LPAs offer vehicle registration services and title transactions, as well as vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags and duplicate registrations. Currently, 131 license plate agencies operate in North Carolina.
