FREMONT – A 51-year-old bridge in Wayne County was closed this week, so crews can demolish it and replace it with a modern structure.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation has closed Davis Mill Road over the Aycock Swamp, which is halfway between Goldsboro and Wilson.
A signed detour is sending drivers onto Black Creek Road, N.C. 211, Reid Town Road and Turner Swamp Road. They should be mindful of the longer commute and be alert near the work site.
The road with the new bridge is expected to reopen in February.
