CHARLOTTE – Two more nights of lane closures are necessary to complete repairs to the Caldwell Street bridge over Interstate 277 in uptown Charlotte.
Damage to one of the bridge's beams was found on a recent inspection, prompting NCDOT crews to implement an immediate repair plan last week.
Repairs to date include:
- Heat straightening a section of the damaged bridge beam
- Removing a damaged section of the beam at mid-span
- Welding a new section into place
Additional lane closures are planned for tonight and Tuesday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on I-277 Inner to complete the repairs safely:
- Tonight – Inner left and center lanes under the Caldwell bridge
- Tuesday night – Inner center and right lanes under the Caldwell bridge
Drivers should remain alert and slow down in the work zone.
