BELMONT — An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will inspect multiple bridges in Gaston County beginning this weekend.
Contract crews will close the left lanes of Interstate 85 from Moores Chapel Road to N.C. 7 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 through Thursday, Aug. 20 to allow crews to safely inspect the bridges that carry the following roads over I-85:
- Aberdeen Boulevard
- South Church Street
- South Main Street
- Groves Street
- McAdenville Road
- Belmont Mount Holly Road
- N.C. 273
Crews also will inspect the bridge on N.C. 273 between Canal Road and Plant Allen Road from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19. One lane of N.C. 273 will be closed throughout the inspection with flaggers directing traffic.
Lane closures are necessary throughout the inspections to ensure driver and crew safety. NCDOT inspects bridges at least every two years in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Drivers should allow additional travel time, stay alert and avoid distracted driving.
